NZ Political Science Association Working Group Civics, Citizenship and Political Literacy
The aim of the meeting was to enable a small working group from the New Zealand Political Science Association (NZPSA) to meet with teachers, educators and organisations working on issues relating to civics, citizenship and political literacy, and to think about how we could best support the citizenship threads of the NZ curriculum. This included:
- To talk about how to support civics and citizenship for all students in New Zealand Aotearoa;
- To improve working relationships between teachers and the NZPSA. For example, to consider what NZPSA political scientists can do to help with the professional development of educators;
- To understand how citizenship is taught and thought about in schools in years 9-13, and to think about a possible year 11, 12 or 13 political literacy units (if there is merit in the idea).
